About the Course

The lecture will cover the entitlement of the Filipino Seafarer to disability benefits under existing laws and the salient provisions of Republic Act No. 10706 otherwise known as the Seafarers Protection Act

Lecturer: Segovia, Jan Michael K.

Jan Michael K. Segovia is a Commission Attorney VI of the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC), a quasi-judicial body tasked to promote and maintain industrial peace by resolving labor and management disputes involving both local and overseas workers through compulsory arbitration and alternative modes of dispute resolution. Prior to joining the NLRC, JM was an Associate of Puno Law Offices and a member of the firm’s Litigation department. He received his juris doctor degree from the Ateneo de Manila Law School in 2013 where he graduated with second honors. As a student, JM was a member of the Ateneo Jessup Team that emerged as National Champions and Philippine Representative in the International Rounds of the 2011 Jessup Competition in Washington D.C. He is also the founding President of the Ateneo law in Business Association.
